NORMAN, Okla. — The Sooners are bowl eligible—we knew they would be—and with that, each week on out for the rest of the season OUInsider.com will be delving into all their potential bowl games and matchups.
They, of course, wasted no time in joining the bowl eligible ranks. Doing so in the minimum six weeks, the Sooners now get to enjoy a bye week before jumping into their tricky ‘Championship November’ slate.
This week, too, the first College Football Playoff standings were released. And, as you can expect, that only ups this discussion.
“Yeah, to me, it’s just meaningless stuff to kill the time until we get to the end," said head coach
Lincoln Riley . "I mean, I think a great example is go back and look where we were ranked in the first CFP poll all the years we’ve been to the CFP. You know, just the biggest games, the best games, the most important games all across the country have still yet to be played. And so there are a lot of good teams that are vying for it, and the best ones tend to rise up this time of year and separate themselves, and that’ll happen again this year. And like I said, where we sit right now—and when I say we, just college football as a whole and all the rankings—where they sit right now and where they’re going to be here in three or four weeks is going to be a big, big difference. So, if we win, then what they put out tomorrow is not going to matter, or today. It shows you how much I’m paying attention to it.”
So, without any further ado, let’s speculate about what’s to come.
